About the Author/Cook

Almost as far back as I can remember I have had a tumultuous relationship with food. In fact my first hypoglycaemic episode happened at the tender age of 5. Back then I thought I was dying because dinner was a half hour later than usual, for whatever reason. But once I had eaten all was good in my world again until my teens. Even back then I loved cooking with 'health foods' including whole wheat flour and one of my biggest enemies - wheat bran. Now there was a doomed relationship if ever I have seen one.
But it wasn't just the wheat family that upset me; it was also dairy, milk and ice cream in particular. Of course there were many that told me it was all in my mind, even though two full cream capuccinos sent me to the bathroom for lengthy periods of time and wheat bran and wheat germ would leave me curled up in a ball for hours on end clutching a hot water bottle trying to ease the awful 'discomfort'. Meanwhile sugar gave me emotional whiplash from the continual spikes in my blood sugar and eventually left me feeling something akin to chronic fatigue and unable to emerge from sugar induced coma sleeps and always thoroughly exhausted.
So the allergy tests concluded a 'mild' reaction to grasses and mild sensitivities to dairy. My blood sugar readings were 'border line' and I felt like hell and quite frankly I looked awful. Not that my diet was ever bad. Don't get me wrong I never ate much takeaway and very little processed food but my body just did not love diary products, cane sugar or any wheat products.
Fortunately for me and many others there are loads of products and choices now available to the average allergic individual. Most of my family do not suffer with allergies like I do but I do see mild allergic reactions to some foods which I am now adept at recognising. So fortunately for them they have the options to eat allergy free also.
Even with all the choice of foods available today, some people lack the time and possibly the creativity to get into the kitchen and create tasty allergy free meals for all occasions. Enter me. I got to the stage where I was fed up with being unable to enjoy the limited food available for allergy sufferers and hated feeling miserable and missing out all the time. I decided that I was going to get in the kitchen and not only rekindle my love of cooking but I was going to produce good tasting food that anyone can eat. I was going to eat wonderful fresh food that left me coming back for more AND I was going to have my cake and eat it too. And one more thing, I was going to make the food so good not only would people not know it was allergy free food but that it was so good that they would be asking for more and the recipe.
Well one thing led to another and No Milk No Wheat No Sugar website was born. I am also working on getting some cook books printed so you can have all these recipes at the ready to wow not just your allergic friends but your non-allergic friends as well.
Oh by the way, once I completely gave up all dairy, all wheat, cane sugar and white rice I dropped 10 kilos (22lbs). I also sleep a lot better and I have much greater energy levels. Amazing what giving up all your allergens can do for you.
Now whilst there are a lot of foods out there that you can eat that don't contain any allergens, some of them contain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and ingredients that you won't find in any kitchen. So bear with me while I populate the site with tried and tested recipes that will change the way that you see your allergic self and revolutionise the way you eat.
Wishing you good health and happiness.
